How a job runs

  1. Quay

A recce in the overcast we intend to keep.

We read the brief, ask what the pictures are for and where they will run, and visit the place if we have not shot there before.

You get: a crew plan and a written estimate

  2. Plot

Stills and motion share a key. No second look in the truck.

Shot list, call sheet, crew and kit go into one document. Must-have frames come first, extras come with a time next to them.

You get: a call sheet and a shot list

  3. Hold

Tethered review. Selects before the cloud moves.

Stills are reviewed tethered on set, film is checked on a calibrated monitor, and nobody leaves until the key frames are agreed.

You get: a contact sheet the same evening

  4. Grade

Cool without steel. Whites decided once.

Finishing happens here, not with a stranger. Files are named for the media plan and delivered with a readme someone else can follow.

You get: masters, versions and an archive

  5. Name

Masters labelled for the media plan.

How we work, in full

Two recent jobs

Limestone, overcast quay, stills and films finished so print and a short cut stay the same afternoon, not a postcard sunset. All work

Food, oil, olives

Oil that had to look like the table

Pack stills and a 20s loop. One window, three crops.

The bottle needed a highlight that survived OOH. We locked the window and turned it on tethered stills before we rolled.

The loop is the same tabletop.

Hospitality, pale hotel room

Rooms that match the film

Hotel interiors and a two-minute film shot at the hour of the recce.

Stone already had a white. We did not gel it into a postcard sunset.

Food stills and coverage shared one balance.
